Frequently Asked Questions
-
Ingrown nails are hereditary, but you could make them better or worse.
-
The ingrown toenail could do 3 things:
If your skin is thin and your ingrown nail is strong, the nail could press on your nerves right under it and cause pain. If the nail pokes through the skin, it could also cause infection.
If your skin is strong, it will build enough new skin just like a callus under your feet to counteract the pressure. Then you have no pain, but over time this skin becomes dead tissue trapped under the ingrown nail. Over time the dead tissue is decayed by bacteria and provides nutrients for fungal spores, which exist abundantly on your skin, to become active and grow, starting to make enzymes to digest the nail and expand.
If your toes avoid pain or fungal infections, and your ingrown toenails continue to grow and anchor in your skin, your toenail gets stuck in the skin. Your nail won't be able to grow out to make its length longer, but it will build thickness and then turn and twist to deform your nails. You are now facing nail deformation.
So from time to time, you need to check your nails for ingrown toenails to avoid:
Pain
Fungal toenails
Nail deformation

You could go see a podiatrist to get fungal medicine to treat it.
But you face some dilemmas as follows:
You could take oral medicine to kill them, but these medications can be harmful to your liver, so you need to be tested to see if you can take them.
Another option is to use topical fungal medicine applied directly on your infected nails. The problem with this approach is that it's normally ineffective because when your nail senses the fungus it will continue to build new layers that push the whole nail bed up to isolate the fungus. Your nail will get thicker and discolored unless you file it down properly.
You are much better off seeing Jimmy, who has cured thousands of fungal cases during his 25 years of curing fungal toenails.

It all depends on the condition. Jimmy can examine your nails and give you treatment and advice.

Preventative medicine is the best medicine. You solve potential problems instead of reacting to problems as they occur.
We always recommend that active individuals like runners, workers standing on their feet all day, athletes, or sports players have regular pedicures with deep cleaning procedures such as those at J&J Nail Specialty.
Even if you don't have deep ingrown toenails, dead tissue built up in front of and around your nails could be sources of food for fungal spores to hatch and grow.
Regular removal of that dead skin will bring healthy nails that won't develop fungal problems.
